| How can I make the Picture in Picture (PIP)
feature work on my TV?
First of all, you will have to find out (or already
know) if your TV has Twin Tuner PIP, or just PIP,
because there are real differences in ways they have
to be hooked up. Also if you have only Satellite TV
service with one box (and don’t have Ultimate TV
from DirecTV) then you cannot use the PIP feature of
your TV.
Another related question before we get into how to
hook this up, what is the reason to want to have PIP
on your TV? One nice thing is you can check the ball
game on the insert while you watch a regular program
on the larger picture. You also can switch over to the
ball game if it’s better than the regular
program. Also it is very handy when trying to
keep up with the weather predictions by watching two
news reports at the same time. It is fun and
convenient to have access to two channels at
once. It also allows you to “surf” the small
picture to see if there is something better on than
you are watching.
If you have two tuners in your TV (Twin Tuner PIP)
then you just hook the antenna or cable to the set and
turn on the PIP. That is unless you use a cable box,
then you have to split the cable (one side directly to
TV tuner, the other to the cable box, and then the
cable box is connected to the TV by using AV
cables). If this seems confusing, we will draw
you a picture and show (and sell) you the cables you
will need in our store.
If you don’t have two tuners, but do have a TV
with PIP, then you will need to use a second source
(VCR, DVD, Cable box etc) for one of your signals, and
the regular TV tuner for the second signal. When
using a cable box or VCR as the second source requires
a splitter, more coax and AV cables. It also
requires a little practice to make it work right. (Don’t
try to show it off until you have mastered the logic
of making the thing work the way it should).
Again we have the cables and the parts to make it
work, and we will provide some workable drawings to
fit your components.
It may seem difficult to set up (it really isn’t)
but the fun of being able to watch two programs at the
same time can be a lot of fun for the one time effort.
