| What is the difference between DISH and DirecTV?
There is a basic difference in the way the two
companies are marketing their products today.
First of all, the DISH model has been promoting
heavily, a low upfront cost program ($49.00 covers the
hardware, installation and activation) whether you
choose 1 box or more. DISH Network has also been
offering 3 months of basic programming free. All
that is required is a credit card, a brief credit
check, and a signed agreement to keep service up for a
year and your basic installation will be arranged
before you leave the store. A very attractive
proposal with a slightly higher cost because you don’t
own the system and DISH Network has agreed to keep
your system up and running as long as you have it. If
you decide to terminate your service after a year they
will want you to return the equipment or face a charge
on your credit card.
DirecTV has a different proposal, you pay for the
equipment and the basic installation is covered in the
purchase. It is your equipment and the parts are
covered for a year under the manufacturer’s
warranty. You will also be required to sign a contract
to maintain service for a year. Again there is a
penalty, as there is with DISH if you don’t keep
your service up.
Both satellite systems offer you a consistently
good signal on all stations, it doesn’t matter where
you are so long as your dish is aimed properly. With
both systems you can use your antenna for locals or
get them as a part of your satellite services. The
only drawback for some cable users switching over to
satellite TV is that a box is needed with any TV that
is to have its own choice on programming. Some people
keep basic cable and use satellite for the movie
channels on the bigger sets. Others choose to have a
box with each TV and pay the extra monthly charge for
each box.
There is some difference in the programming
available through the two systems and this is where
you need to come in and talk to us about the systems
(since we have both) and compare which best suits your
needs, Stop in and see both systems in operation. You’ll
love getting satellite TV the best way to see TV! |
